I'm the Kyiv Independent's defense reporter, covering the defense industry, new weapons tech, cyberdefense and the galaxy of political concerns surrounding all of the above.

Born and raised in western Michigan. I speak fluent Russian and increasingly fluent Ukrainian. Logistics and interviews all own; have never used a fixer/interpreter. Also strong Arabic and Dutch. I travel light. 

 

Prior pubs in Radio Free Europe, Fortune, Breaking Defense, Science Magazine, FT's Sifted, the Cipher Brief, and the Foreign Policy Research Institute.

Active credentials with U.S. Congress and the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense. B.A. from Vanderbilt University. Left an M.A. at Georgetown's School of Foreign Service to come to Ukraine.
